On Finiteness Conjectures for Modular Quaternion Algebras
It is conjectured that there exist finitely many isomorphism classes of simple endomorphism algebras of abelian varieties of GL2-type over Q of bounded dimension. We explore this conjecture when particularized to quaternion endomorphism algebras of abelian surfaces by giving a moduli interpretation which translates the question into the diophantine arithmetic of Shimura curves embedded in Hilbe...
متن کاملLocal diophantine properties of modular curves of D-elliptic sheaves
We study the existence of rational points on modular curves of D-elliptic sheaves over local fields and the structure of special fibres of these curves. We discuss some applications which include finding presentations for arithmetic groups arising from quaternion algebras, finding the equations of modular curves of D-elliptic sheaves, and constructing curves violating the Hasse principle.

متن کاملWhich Quaternion Algebras Act on a Modular Abelian Variety?
Let A/Q be a modular abelian variety. We establish criteria to prevent a given quaternion algebra over a totally real number field to be the endomorphism algebra of A over Q̄. We accomplish this by analyzing the representation of Gal (Q̄/Q) on the points of N-torsion of A at primes N which ramify in B and by applying descent techniques to certain covers of Shimura varieties. Our result also appli...
متن کاملSelections from the Arithmetic Geometry of Shimura Curves I: Modular Curves
This first lecture is on (classical) modular curves. It is a rather “straight up” expository account of the subject, suitable for people who have heard about modular curves before but seen little about them. After reviewing some truly classical results about modular curves over the complex numbers, we will discuss rational and integral canonical models, focusing in on the case of X0(N) for squa...
